Dr. Umana graduated from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL, in 1985. He completed his eye specialty training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Dr. Umana is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Dr. Umana belongs to local, national, and international eye organizations and whether through teaching or volunteering, Dr. Umana enjoys sharing the gift of sight with others locally and in other parts of the world.
Since 1989, Dr.Umana has provided specialized eye care to the people of Southern Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky. Dr. Umana is the Refractive Surgery Specialist directing the Laser Refractive Institute of the Marion Eye Centers. Dr. Umana was the first ophthalmologist to perform LASIK in the Heartland Region. Since 1998, he has performed over 15,000 LASIK procedures. Dr. Umana uses the most advanced VISX S4 Laser to perform customized LASIK procedures. Beyond personal accomplishments, he also has the unique experience of being a LASIK patient, himself. He is very happy to share this revolutionary procedure with you.
