Dr. Faisel Ahmad is a fully licensed ophthalmologist in Illinois and Missouri who practices ophthalmology and specializes in cataract surgery and medical retinal treatments.  Dr. “Faisel” is a native southern Illinoisan having grown up in southern Illinois and graduating from Carbondale High School.  He completed is undergraduate education at Northwestern University in Chicago with a degree in neurobiology.  He then returned to southern Illinois to complete his medical school training at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, IL.  He then went on to complete an internship at internal medicine at SIU at St. John’s Hospital and Memorial Medical Center.  Dr. Faisel did his residency training in ophthalmology at the Saint Louis University Eye institute.  He went on the get additional specialized training in vitreoretinal diseases.  He completed a clinical observership in vitreoretinal diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute under the guidance of Dr. Harry Flynn, one of the world’s leading experts in diabetic retinopathy, endophthalmitis  and vitreoretinal diseases.  He also completed a clinical medical retina fellowship at the Marion Eye Centers.  Throughout his training, Dr. Faisel has conducted research in retinal and ophthalmic diseases.  He was the lead author of a book chapter on anterior segment ophthalmic surgical techniques.  He has also been published in peer reviewed journals, most recently on the topic of retinal vascular disease the journal, Ophthalmic Surgery, Lasers, and Imaging.  He is a member of several ophthalmic societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He enjoys learning from and teaching other surgeons  from around the world having participated in medical and surgical missions, most recently in Honduras.

Dr. Faisel specializes in the latest techniques of small incision no stitch cataract surgery and laser and medical retinal treatments for retina problems including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.  He is a highly skilled and trained physician and surgeon having completed thousands of successful cataract surgeries, laser treatments, and intravitreal injections including Avastin, Lucentis and Eyelea.  He offers advanced surgical and intraocular lens options including the use of aspheric monofocal lenses, astigmatism correcting (toric) lenses and limbal relaxing incisions to reduce astigmatism and multifocal lenses to reduce the need for glasses after cataract surgery.  He personally evaluates each patient to come up with an individualized treatment plan best suited to your eye.  He looks forward to helping you achieve the best vision.
