Eye Care for summer

Before you tell us you’re just going to laze about all summer, let us stop you right there. Summer is no time to sit on the couch and stare at the TV, eating junk food, and ignoring your health. The weather is great and there’s so much to do. Granted, you probably feel like you could use a break. And we fully support taking some much-needed downtime to go on a vacation or just let yourself unwind.

We do believe there should be a limit to how much you let yourself ignore your health over the summer. An extra sugary snack every once in a while isn’t going to destroy your health. Just as forgetting your sunglasses won’t ruin your eyes. It’s what you do most of the time that impacts your health the most. Keep reading to learn how to keep your eyes healthy this summer.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses are important and we’ll keep talking about them for as long as we can. They’re important to wear year-round, too. But, chances are, you’re not spending nearly as much time outside in the winter as you are in the summer. So, it’s more important to mention them in the summertime. That extra time spent in the sun can lead to sunburn and damage to your eyes. Get a good pair of sunglasses with UV protection and wear them any time you’re outside.

Drink Water

You may be tempted to drink only cold beer or salted-rim margaritas this summer, but it’s important to stay hydrated, too. Everything should balance out. So, balance out those dehydrating alcoholic drinks with some much-needed water. When you’re properly hydrated, your eyes are able to create tears and keep themselves moist. If you’re dehydrated, your eyes could suffer the consequences.

Eye Protection

Summer is a great time for big projects. Fixing the fence, or building new garden boxes are easiest in the summer, but those projects can impact your eyes if you aren’t careful. Wearing protective goggles can help prevent you from getting sawdust in your eyes, or even from a more severe injury that could result from an accident.
