Resolve To Take Care of Your Eyes in the New Year!Sunday, January 15th, 2023, 9:57 am
Having healthy eyes and good vision are precious things, but all too often we do things that may be dangerous for our eyes, or we just plain don’t take care of them like we should. Making an extra effort to take care of your eyes doesn't take a lot of time, but it can make a big difference to your eyes and your quality of life. Read on for some tips to keep in mind for healthy eyes in the new year!
Visit Your Eye Doctor Often if You Have Other Health Problems
Diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure can result in serious problems with the eyes. Make sure your eye doctor knows about any medical conditions you may have so that he or she can help you to stay healthy.
Visit Your Eye Doctor if Something Suddenly Changes
Another good tip for healthy eyes is to see your eye doctor as often as he or she recommends, typically every 1 to 3 years. However, there are times when you shouldn’t wait until your next appointment, such as if your eye is in intense pain, you suddenly have problems focusing, or you are suddenly seeing flashes of light or a “curtain” over part of your vision.
Keeping good overall health habits is a great way to help your eyes and your vision. Don’t smoke (which is bad for your circulation and makes it hard for oxygen and nutrients to feed the eyes), eat a healthy diet (full of dark leafy greens, lots of fish, and lots of foods with vitamins C and E), and make sure to exercise, which increases blood flow to the eyes.
Protect Your Eyes
This means wearing eye protection if you are working around anything that may fly into the eye and cause damage, but you should also protect your eyes from sunlight by remembering to wear sunglasses whenever you go outside.
