Bryan R. Bowen, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Bowen received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry in May 2001 with cum laude honors. Prior to optometry school, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry in 1994 at the University of Missouri-
Columbia. Dr. Bowen had completed his clinical externships at the Omni Eye Center in Atlanta, GA, Harry S. Truman Memorial VAMC in Columbia, MO, John Cochran VAMC in St. Louis, MO, and The Koetting Associates in St. Louis, MO.
Early in his career, he was a staff optometrist at the John J. Pershing VAMC in Poplar Bluff, MO, after he completed his residency in Primary Eye Care/Ocular Disease at the Fayetteville VAMC in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 2002. Afterward, Dr. Bowen practiced in a prominent private practice group for over six years in the greater St. Louis metropolitan region prior to joining St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 2009.
Dr. Bowen has also been a Clinical Instructor at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Specialty Care Clinic, Center for Advanced Medicine, and Barnes Jewish West County locations during his time with both pediatric/comprehensive ophthalmology groups thru
the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Dr. Bowen has given continuing education lectures to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and other CE events throughout his career. He became a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in December 2003, and he is ACMO (Advanced Competence in Medical Optometry)-board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry/American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry. In addition, Dr. Bowen became a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry in 2013, and he is still active with the National Board of Examiners in Optometry as an examiner. He enjoys seeing patients
of all ages with emphasis in ocular disease/pathology, contact lenses, and comanagement/ treatment of complex/rare eye conditions/chronic age-related eye conditions. He is married with a beautiful wife and two children, and he resides near Scott Air Force Base in Shiloh, IL.
